On the Scene, Revealing the New Artist

Hey, everyone! The first page of our calendars has already flown off, and Above the Fold is just four days away. Excited to share this new piece with all of you, we at 1230 Entertainment are proud to officially unveil our spoken word artist, The Journalist.

He takes his name from his major in college, always considering himself a writer at heart. His lyrical influences include a variety of artists, namely Robert Frost, J. Cole and The Shins. Growing up in the south suburbs of Chicago, The Journalist learned how to crawl to the rhythm of Irish folk artists. History and music always came together in his mind, but that relationship hit a turning point when he became enthralled with hip hop. The history was no longer his own. As an emotional outlet, he wrote his first rap at 17 after his grandfather died, and he’s spent the six years since crafting his style as a spoken word artist.

The Journalist’s first project uses the newscast concept to tell stories of both personal experiences and larger, social issues. Many people express doubts about modern media, and rightfully so. Between sifting through the incessant influx of information and hearing factual stories skewed by political bias, obtaining reliable news has become exhausting. Enter, The Journalist-- on the scene. Since he often believed the lies as a child, his album works to speak truthfully to the youth about these micro and macro relationships. The Journalist aims to spark an empathetic dialogue, which can lead to progressive action.

And, ladies and gentlemen, beloved members of the 1230 extended family, he is me, your publicist. As a professional writer, managing executive and now, officially, an artist, switching between hats is as fun as it is demanding. In the end, it will all be worth it. But until then, I can’t think of better people to have with me along the way than all of you.
