Entrepreneur in Music
When it comes to entrepreneurship and music, I use every aspect of my creative mind to obtain that certain goal, and balancing artistry and business isn't always easy. Since becoming a manager and stepping back from certain rolls, I still find myself involved is all the roles in some capacity. This is where I take my artistry out of the forefront. Everyday I have to be the entrepreneur / manager asking myself the questions. What can I do make 1230 better or stronger, more effective and what can I do to set us apart for the others?
As a manager it becomes my job to do all that I can to advocate for the artist, and to make sure his or her best interest is what is being presented. Just last week artist MICHAEL THE JUNG released a cover of "Castle on the Hill" by Ed Sheeran on Facebook, which apparently got a little too much attention and was taken down by a complaint of Universal Music Group. This goes to show how much of the industry is still very controlled, and in a sense bullied. As artists we are free to express our art and showcase those who inspire us, and who we admire. But are we really? No way should that video have been removed. Talented artists get pushed under the rug or shut down all time, and I believe its because there is a chance that the artist just may overtake someone else's spotlight . As much as I would like to believe its all about the art and music, it isn't. It's a business and at the end of the day, and we are all out here trying to get our piece of the pie. Building a strong sense of culture, community and collaborative efforts that create collaborative content is rooted in my core.
A Entrepreneur in music never stops thinking about whats next, what can we do better, how to execute differently and more effectively. I may have been doing this since 16 but I continue to learn new things everyday and every moment I take this journey.
As always,
